THIS IS A TRULY ROMANTIC MOVIE!
PEPPERMINT (2018), like ATOMIC BLONDE (2017) and AMERICAN ASSASSIN (2017), is one of those romantic movies that are truly appreciated here at http://perucine.blogspot.com.
The plot is simple and beautiful: seeking justice, a woman kills the criminals involved in the murder of her family (a husband and a daughter.) Only in America, land of the free, it is possible to create a lovely movie that promotes taking justice in your own hands. Naturally, the movie, being a good teaching tool, indicates that in order to impart good sense to the misguided it is important to have proper training, in particular if the misguided are tough criminals who don't care about the well-being of the average American citizen.
The movie is audiovisual poetry at its best: the rythm, the framing of the action, the set design, the color, contribute to create this fantasy that posses the great quality of being easy to enjoy. With a bit more of drama and pain, the director (Pierre Morel) would be considered as skillful as Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann or John McTiernan. The pathos missing in PEPPERMINT is what makes the difference when facing film critics that like what the three mentioned filmmakers make... but I really like PEPPERMINT as it is. LETHAL WEAPON (1987) had a bit more pathos, by the way. PEPPERMINT is great as it is, and want to watch three or four more times just to learn how Pierre Morel makes his movies.
