HAnnimal Lector (2022), directed by the Peruvian filmmaker Jorge Luis Villacorta Santamato, is one of those rare contemporary movies whose abstract level demands a noticeable amount of accumulated cultural capital to inspire the horror that nurtures its conception.

Cultural capital comes for free for everyone, and it depends on the economic one that reproduces the social environment where we were born. Therefore, a rare movie requires unusual spectators, and in this case, a "realist" reading of this movie implies a particular model of "reality."

While, for most people, the capitalist society imposes a "sensible" use of time, meaning transforming such time into monetary gains, much lesser people have the opportunity of contemplating social life and their own life as an objectifiable object. For the few who can achieve such undertaking as a natural product of their social conditions, a feature film like HAnnimal Lector (2022) is a seductive pleasure offered by a peer who understands their needs.

Jorge Luis Villacorta Santamato has been blessed or cursed (it depends on the social position and opinion of the one who makes the judgment), with an artistic disposition that pushes him to develop art projects that challenge the most extended viewpoints in the audiovisual field. First, because he comments on a restricted subject like intellectual achievement or interest and, second, due to his aware use of film techniques, applying them as an accomplished scholar who knows they must serve his objectives and not impose a discoursive model upon them. This dual restriction shrinks his public to that slice of producers who create for other producers.

So, stating that HAnnimal Lector (2022) is a movie about cannibalism is logical for those who possess a command of abstraction. Reading is a social process, even though it seems that the individual is the one who reads. Did the reader invent the language? No, he only uses it. Did the speaker create the social condition in which language is spoken? No, he follows social rules to say what is pertinent. Reading once is an appropriation of objectification by someone. Reading the same passage twice is the objectification of the memory of appropriating an objectification. Even though it is a new experience and the second reading provides a novel grasp of the ideas priorly absorbed, some common sense perceives that there is a superimposition of thoughts.

Repeating the experience three, four, and five times for most people occur when trying to memorize or understand the text.

A scholar predates other authors' ideas, concepts, explanations, descriptions, discoveries, and statements; he is a cannibal, even though he cannibalizes abstractions. When he eats his thought just by intending to think what he thought previously, he doesn't clarify his mind forcefully, but it happens occasionally. Comparing the investigative data or result with the model of "reality" is a need to update the model. What happens when thinking isolates itself and searches for meaning within itself? Does it create an ouroboros?

Capitalism, the American way, tends to consider all as economic capital, therefore, transformable into money, sustained by social belief. Future earnings that aren't real yet justify loans based on pure faith. The lenders consider droughts, catastrophes, or maladies nonexistent, which is admirable. Probably, it is what God wants. At the same time, it is an ouroboros, a social structure fed by its faith. An un-updated model cannot last from a scientific perspective, only in the imagination. As in HAnnimal Lector (2022), someone must close the book, verify what is going on outside a literary world, an economic world, or a movie theater, and update the model.

The cycle exposed in HAnnimal Lector (2022) stares at the collective unconscious brilliantly. It is a visual metaphor that doesn't pull its punches.
